Your Kid Will Outgrow 15+ Pairs of Shoes by Age 10

Here's What Happens to Them.

  • 🏔️ Landfill Forever

Most kids’ shoes are made from mixed plastics, foams, and glued layers that can’t be recycled. Once outgrown, they almost always end up in landfill, where they don’t break down. They just sit for decades or longer. A shoe worn for a few months can outlast the childhood it was part of.

  • 🌊 Microplastics Pollution

As plastic and synthetic rubber soles wear down, tiny particles break off when kids walk and play. These microplastics wash into waterways and soil, moving through the environment and eventually back into our food and water. They don’t disappear, they circulate.

  • ⚠️ Toxic Materials

To keep costs low, many conventional kids’ shoes use chemical dyes, synthetic glues, and plastic additives. Shoes sit directly against children’s feet for hours a day, where heat and sweat increase contact with these materials. Parents rarely see this side of shoe manufacturing, but kids feel it.

1

The Problem

My kid outgrew 3 pairs of shoes in one year. All went to the landfill. I felt terrible.
2

The Research

Spent 6 months searching for truly eco-friendly kids shoes. Nothing existed that wasn't greenwashing.
3

12 Prototypes

Tested various natural, biodegradable materials with three different factories. Most failed. I kept going.
